Kahawa Wendani: Family Anxiously Searches for Boy Who Fell Into River While Playing with Kid Brother

  • The mother and the boy's brother were hurriedly removed from the scene to make the rescue efforts a bit easier

Kahawa Wendani: A young family has been thrown into a state of anxiety and confusion after their young son fell into a river while he was playing with his younger brother.

According to Derrick Mbugua, the two boys were playing at Kahawa Wendani's Lacasa Area.

"A young boy was playing with his 2-year-old brother when he slid and fell into a river in their neighbourhood. We are here trying to find the child, I have also informed the Kiambu Ruiru Emergency Unit and they are on the way," he said.

"We've also moved the mum and the young brother from the scene to allow the rescue operation to take place easily," he added.

Another Kenyan, Simon Mutua Macharia, who read the sad story, was moved by it and also shared his own.

"This sad news reminds me of a five-year-old girl who was playing around in the name of fishing with fellow kids, fell asleep and into the river. While at the parking lot, I heard the screams of a drowning little girl," he said.
"Lucky enough I was able to rescue the girl who was being swept by the moving waters. She went home screaming and it was lucky she had not drowned," he added.

Although it was very cold and foggy, the residents were undeterred in their quest to find the little girl. They stayed in the cold for hours on end, and those whose farms were trampled on as the search intensified did not even complain.

The search went on for days, and the group was determined to bring the girl who should be enjoying her mum's love home.
