Nairobi Lady Narrates Alleged Harassment at Quickmart Buruburu after Being Accused of Stealing Milk

- Although they paid and the receipt was cancelled, they were later accused of stealing 57 litres of milk

Nairobi, Kenya: A young girl and her brother, who were beaten and made to kneel at Quickmart Buruburu, have shared that they were accused of stealing 57 litres of milk.

It all started when the young woman and her brother arrived at the milk dispenser at the huge supermarket and didn't find anyone to serve them, so they thought that it was self-service.
"We had already paid for it so we took a milk bottle and dispensed milk into it. As we were leaving, we met with a worker and he took the receipt then cancelled it. When we got to the door, a security guard called us and went back.

"We were taken to the loading bay and made to kneel down on the floor, they beat me and I even have marks. We were asked about the milk and we showed them the receipt," she said.

When Shisi's brother tried to defend her, he was allegedly pushed away, and then the manager called their dad, but when he arrived and tried to reason with them, they also refused, and he left for Buruburu Police Station.
The young ones were also driven to the police station, and the police were not surprised, and Shishi alleged that every Friday, he takes people there.
"There is someone inside right now because he allegedly stole smokies and another one stole meat," he said.

What did a Quickmart shopper experience?
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Diana Shitonyanga said that something strange happened on two occasions when she was shopping at the Buruburu store.
"I had paid for all my goods when I tried to pass the door, and the alarm went out to show that I had not paid. Thankfully, when the askari came to me, I was able to show the receipt and they counterchecked and it was okay.
"They said it happens sometimes but not that this has happened. I shudder to think what could have happened i the unreasonable manager was around," she said.
What did Quickmart say about Buruburu incident?
Quickmart acknowledged the incident.
"We want to assure our valued customers and the public that we are fully aware of the matter and are taking it very seriously," Quickmart said.
"As soon as we became aware of the situation, we took immediate action by placing the staff involved on suspension while conducting a thorough investigation in collaboration with the relevant authorities. We are committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment for all our customers and staff," the retail shop added.
