In many African cultures, the homestead is often a place of warmth, laughter, and shared memories. A place where children play freely and make noise as elders sit under a tree, perhaps to share a meal or exchange wisdom.

For one man from Meru, this familiar memory has turned into a haunting contrast, as he shared a tour of his now-empty homestead that was once vibrant and full of life.
Why is Meru man's home deserted?
Director Van Baby, in a video shared on his TikTok page, gave viewers a glimpse of his deserted home, left all alone after everyone he loved had passed away.

He took his followers on a quiet walk around the compound, reflecting on how fleeting life can be.
“That house belonged to my grandparents, and this is the house we lived in when I was still a little boy,” he said, pointing to two different structures.
One house stood firm, built with stone and featuring a black water tank at the entrance, while the other was wooden and appeared very old.
He noted that he spent most of his childhood there and had lived in the older house about five years ago before leaving for university.
Director Van Baby showed the rusty, old padlock on the door, noting that it had not been opened for several years.
“After my grandfather died, and my grandmother followed recently, the homestead has been left deserted. But that is life,” he said, while still showing snippets of his home.
He walked from door to door within the homestead, revealing the lifeless state of the houses — no longer inhabited, no longer filled with voices.
The young man quoted the Bible, reflecting on the vanity of earthly possessions and accomplishments.
“Even if you work and toil for so many years, we all die, and everything you once valued will remain here on earth. I keep asking myself: will we always live struggling, only for everything we worked for to lose its meaning in the end?” he posed.
He urged his followers to remain steadfast in prayer and to live a life seeking God’s guidance — to yearn for His kingdom rather than chase after worldly possessions.
He revealed that he had given his life to Christ and now wanted to share the word of God with others, encouraging them to shift their focus to spirituality rather than material things.

How did Vihiga family lose 3 members in days
In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a family in Boyani, Vihiga county, was engulfed in grief after three relatives died within days of each other.
The first to pass away was a Grade Nine boy who was buried alive while helping his father in harvesting sand.
His grandmother, who had been admitted to Mbale Hospital, also succumbed, seemingly unable to cope with the emotional distress on top of her illness.
The boy’s uncle, suspected of being behind the sand collapsing on him, was found dead less than 24 hours later near a river, with his legs still submerged in the water.
