Eufred Mburu was involved in a terrible road accident while ferrying a customer to his preferred destination.
The accident occurred late at night, leaving him severely injured and in need of urgent medical attention.
How did Mburu's accident happen?
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the 27-year-old vividly recounted the unfortunate day that cost him his leg and part of his arm.
"It was between 12am and 1am when the incident happened. I was working the night shift that night. As I was carrying my customer, another biker was coming from the opposite direction. I tried to give him way and even signaled him, but he was neither slowing down nor showing any sign of cooperation.
In a blink, he rammed into me from the front. Despite having my protective gear on, I was badly hurt. My leg was in such bad shape that I could see the bone. The impact was massive," he said.
Mburu, along with the rider who crashed into him and his client, sought immediate medical help.
Why was Mburu turned away by medical facilities?
However, they were turned away from the first hospital, with medics telling Mburu that his condition was too serious and that he needed to be referred elsewhere.
"The man who hit me and my client disappeared, leaving just the two of us. I had called some fellow boda riders who helped rush me to hospital. My customer only required first aid, as his injuries were not serious.
I was rejected at the second hospital, but accepted at the third, where medics began treating me. Unfortunately, they never told me that I would have to pay in cash, as they didn’t accept Social Health Authority (SHA) payments or any other form of credit like logbooks," he said.
Mburu's girlfriend spotted in club after his accident
It was during this period, while he was undergoing treatment, that one of his friends called him with disturbing news.
As Mburu lay in pain in the hospital, his lover of two years was out enjoying herself at an entertainment joint.
"My friend told me he had seen my girlfriend at a club with her friends. They were drinking and having a good time. When I called her, she denied being out, but I could hear loud music in the background, which betrayed her.
She told me we needed to talk, that she felt like a burden and wanted to end the relationship. What hurt the most was when she told me that the child she was carrying might not even be mine. That cut deep," he shared.
How much does Mburu need and how can one reach him?
Mburu remained in the hospital for over a week before being discharged to recover at home, resting on his couch.
He has been relying on family and friends for support, but admitted that the help was dwindling by the day.
"My family helped me pay the first hospital bill of around KSh 91,000, but I still need an additional KSh 30,000 for further treatment. It’s been tough, and now they tell me they have other obligations, so I’m stuck at home," he said painfully.
