A distressed woman from Kisii county has turned to the internet for help after a costly mistake affected both her peace of mind and finances.

Delvin Moraa Magangi had intended to send money to a family member but accidentally transferred it to the wrong number.
She failed to double-check the last digit, which led her to unintentionally "gift" a stranger over KSh 38,000.
Realising the mistake, she reached out to the recipient via WhatsApp, asking him to reverse the transaction.

"Hi. Will refund all the money of yours tomorrow morning. I know the pain of a child," part of the chat read.
What does Moraa do in Iran?
Unfortunately, the man, identified as Holla Chelangat, did not fulfil his promise. Moraa, who works in Iran as a caregiver, told TUKO.co.ke that Chelangat later blocked her number and switched off his phone.
"I was sending the money to my mum as she was sick and needed to go to the hospital. When I realized I had mistakenly sent the money to Chelangat, I tried to talk to the bank to reverse it, but they said they could not. I reached out to Safaricom, but they told me the money could not be reversed because it had already been withdrawn," she explained.
"He promised to return the money but later disappeared. I am so stressed, and I don't know what to do."
When did Moraa travel to Iran?
Moraa, who travelled to Iran in 2024, revealed that she had requested a salary advance from her boss because her mother, who suffers from multiple medical conditions, urgently needed hospital treatment.
"I am my family's breadwinner. I don't know what to do next. I even reached out to Sammy Ondimu Ngare, who shared my story, but there has been no response so far. My mum is very sick and needs treatment, but I’m stranded here," she said tearfully.
What to do when money is sent to wrong recipient
Facebook users took to the comment section to share their thoughts and similar experiences.
Many noted that the best action after sending money to the wrong recipient is contacting the mobile service provider so that it can help in initiating the reverse process.
Others also suggested using the help of the police as failing to return money from a wrong send is a crime addressed in the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.

Kenyan man sends money to wrong number
In a related story, a Kenyan man was frustrated after mistakenly sending KSh 8,000 to the wrong number.
Mustapha Hassan accidentally transferred the money to Sabina Kagwiria via M-Pesa, who also failed to return it.
He resorted to reporting the issue to the police, hoping the authorities would assist.
