Wednesday, August 7, 2025, will be a day Kenyans will remember, and not for good, but for pain, as six people lost their lives in Mwihoko, Githurai 45, Ruiru constituency, Kiambu county.

A plane crash claimed the lives of four personnel who were in the aircraft, as well as two civilians, after the plane crashed into residential houses.
Among the casualties was a young and brilliant woman who died alongside her colleagues in the fateful incident, global nurse Jane Omusula, who worked for the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF).

1. Jane Omusula the reader
One of Omusula’s friends, Alinda Senje, who knew her from way back, noted that the nurse loved to read books.

Senje shared that they used to read books together, do reviews together, and have conversations about them.
“Some days, we’d realise we were reading the same book without even planning it. That’s how connected we were,” she shared.
2. Jane Omusula the fashionista
From several photos on Omusula’s social media accounts, it was evident that the young woman loved to dress to impress.
She knew how to dress for the occasion, whether it was for sports, travelling, or meetings, Omusula always had her dress code on point.

Her friend Senje confirmed this in a long and emotional post after learning of her childhood friend’s death.
“Every outfit hugged her like it was made just for her,” she said.
3. Jane Omusula the sports lover
Nurse Omusula loved tennis and golf, as seen in some of her social media posts.
Several photos captured her at the golf club enjoying her hobby, which she seemed to indulge in often when she had the time.

There were also clips of her playing tennis, showing her affinity for the sport as she enjoyed matches with her friend’s family.
4. Jane Omusula the traveller
Omusula was an explorer, an adventurous person who travelled abroad not for work, but to see and learn new things.
Photos showed her in France, with one capturing the famous Eiffel Tower in the background.

She explored other countries and cities as well, seizing every opportunity to capture the moment with lovely snaps.
5. Jane Omusula the go-getter
Omusula never shied away from pursuing what she loved, regardless of the circumstances or odds against her.
Her friend painted a picture of the humble background she came from and how they endured struggles in school.

However, that never weighed her down; she took every challenge as an opportunity to stretch herself.
“From a bedside nurse to an ICU expert to a global nurse, Jane climbed every rung with quiet confidence and unmatched brilliance,” Senje noted.
6. Where does Jane Omusula hail from?
Omusula was born in Butere, Kakamega county, where she began her life and grew to become a person of substance in society.
Life was not easy for her, but she dared to dream and overcame challenges to live her purpose, nursing.

Jane Omusula's friend pens moving tribute
Taking to her Facebook page, Omusula's friend Amolo Nyar penned a heartwarming tribute in her honour.
"I lost a friend yesterday in a plane crash. Jane was more than a nurse; she was a light. A young nurse, yes, but already so full of wisdom, purpose, and grace. A great golfer. A lover of tennis and books. She lived intentionally, loved deeply, and served with unmatched dedication.
I’ve questioned God. My faith feels dry. Mama… your sunset came too soon," she wrote.
Mwihoko mum cries for her child after plane crash
In another story, a mother from Mwihoko was inconsolable after she could not find her child following the crash.
The mother was carried away from the accident scene as tears flowed down her cheeks, and she bitterly wept.
The devastated mum was warmly embraced by another woman who sympathised with her loss.
