Brian Maingi Mbithi told TUKO.co.ke that he had to leave college because he could no longer afford the tuition and accommodation fees.
TUKO.co.ke first shared his plight in January, and with the help of well-wishers, he raised enough money to gain admission to Skyworld Aviation College in Ngong, Kajiado county.
“I used the money I got to enroll in college, paid tuition and accommodation for two months, did some shopping, and settled in well. I knew everything would be fine,” he said.
A few weeks later, his problems began as he could not afford the compulsory school activities required.
“The tutors had us going on compulsory trips, none of which were sponsored. Students had to pay out of their own pockets, and I did not go because I could not afford it,” he shared.
Brian noted that he started having a hard time in school and was often left behind, especially when he missed the trips for his travel and tourism management class.
How did Brian Mbithi’s mum die?
Adding to his financial distress, the 20-year-old’s mother and sole guardian fell ill in March this year.
He explained that she was in great pain and had to be admitted to the hospital.

“She could no longer hustle. She was in so much pain and stayed in hospital for three weeks before they diagnosed her with cancer,” he said.
Unfortunately, she did not live long and passed away days later, leaving her only child to face the world alone.
“Mum was laid to rest, and I have been trying to make ends meet, although it has proven difficult,” he stated.
The young man said that due to his disability, many employers look down on him, doubting he can perform well because of his leg.
Brian said he has searched for work at construction sites, car washes, and other menial jobs, but has never been accepted.

Unable to cover his accommodation fees, he dropped out and travelled back to his village in Machakos.
However, his hopes of finding a warm place to sleep were shattered when he discovered his mother’s house had collapsed.
“I came back to Nairobi and decided to go to Ruiru where a friend of mine lived but ended up on the streets, homeless, hungry and sick,” he said.
He recounted instances where he had been attacked by thieves during the nights he had been living on the streets.
“I feel like my days are numbered. I am suffering and currently sleeping in the market in Ruiru. I am sick and hungry. I don’t know what to do anymore. I need help and do not know where to turn,” said Brian.
Brian said he has no phone and, occasionally, when needed, borrows one from a market vendor to ask for help before returning the SIM card.
To assist Brian, you can reach him on 0759740891.
