Kisumu Accident: Heartbroken Woman Rolls, Weeps Outside Jaramogi Hospital after Losing Parents

The road accident, which occurred on the evening of Friday, August 8, around Coptic Roundabout in Mamboleo, Kisumu county, has left the country shaken and in pain.

The tragic incident along the Kisumu–Kakamega Highway left at least 25 people dead and several others injured.

It was reported that before the death toll rose by four, 19 people had been confirmed dead on the spot, while two more passed away at the hospital.

Where were Kisumu accident victims taken?

The victims were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) following the accident.

At the hospital, a heavy cloud of grief hung in the air as bitter wails and screams filled the atmosphere.

A woman could not contain her sorrow as she mourned her loved ones who were in the ill-fated 51-seater bus.

The lady refused to be consoled, having lost two family members in the accident that claimed 25 lives.

She rolled on the floor, screaming at the top of her voice and crying for her parents, who were sadly no more.

She wept outside the hospital’s emergency unit, where other residents had gathered following the breaking news.

Her great distress was evident from her demeanour, as she helplessly sobbed at the medical facility.

Another woman stood beside her but could barely console her, fully understanding the pain the bereaved were going through.

How many people were injured in Kisumu accident?

No one else tried to calm her down as she bitterly wept for her kin who were among the casualties.

The accident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m., involved an AIC Naki Secondary School bus whose passengers were returning from a funeral.

The bus overturned at the Coptic Roundabout after the driver failed to successfully negotiate a bend, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and land in a ditch.

At least 20 people were severely injured, with survivors, including an infant, rushed to hospital.

Rigathi Gachagua mourns victims of accident

Taking to his Facebook, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua mourned the 21 people who died in the Kisumu accident.

"My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones in this horrific crash. I urge all road users to exercise maximum care on the roads. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We must all be safe on our roads for one another," he said.

Mwihoko plane crash kills six people

The incident came just a day after another tragedy in Mwihoko, Githurai 45, Ruiru constituency, Kiambu county.

An AMREF plane crashed into residential homes, killing the four personnel on board and two civilians.

Among the civilians who died was a 12-year-old girl who was preparing lunch for her sisters in a salon.
