Mwihoko: Woman Escapes Death, Loses House after Stepping out 10 Minutes Before Plane Crash

  • A woman cheated death delaying her time to have a meal and rather decided to do something else
  • She opened up about how rejecting a plate of food saved her life, but not her house and possessions

While death is inevitable, a woman from Mwihoko, Githurai 45, Ruiru constituency, Kiambu county, has opened up about how she escaped a plane crash death by a whisker.

Margret Wairimu would have been counted among the casualties of the Mwihoko plane crash.

The fatal accident that claimed the lives of six people occurred on Thursday evening, August 7.

All four who were on the plane met their fate before the crash killed two civilians when it struck residential homes.

Wairimu shared how she dodged death on the fateful day, noting that had she given in to her hunger, she would not be alive.

“If I had not stepped out for 10 minutes for a stroll, I would not be alive. I was about to have lunch around 3pm, but something nudged me not to. I would have been affected like the others,” she said.

However, she was still traumatised and in fear, as her house was not spared in the unfortunate event.

Wairimu counts herself lucky

Her home was among those damaged as part of the aircraft tore through rooftops and walls before bursting into flames.

Hers was destroyed and burned, but she counted herself lucky for stepping out minutes before the crash.

Wairimu’s eyes showed fear after witnessing what happened to her home and the impact of the plane in the area.

She imagined what would have become of her had she not listened to her instincts, which ultimately saved her life.

It was, however, unfortunate for a young girl who was at home alone when the horrible incident occurred.

Yvonne Akinyi was preparing lunch for her siblings when she met her fate as the AMREF plane crashed into their house.

She had left her sisters and aunt at the salon as she returned home to prepare a meal for them.

Mercy Nafula, her mother, had mixed emotions after learning about her 12-year-old daughter’s death.

Nafula was shattered by the loss of her lastborn child but was glad she did not lose all her children.

She noted that the other kids chose to remain behind and not follow their sister, which would have made the tragedy even worse.

Apart from losing her daughter, she also lost her house and household items, which were burned to the ground.

She disclosed that she lost important documents like her children’s birth certificates and the clothes she sold for income.

Kenyans joined the Mwihoko woman in thanking God for saving her life, with many encouraged that there was a positive story emerging from the tragedy.

In another story, a woman was widowed after the AMREF plane killed her bedridden husband at home.

Rahab Wamuyu’s husband was recovering from injuries sustained in another grisly road accident when the plane crashed into their house, destroying it and killing him.

Wamuyu was at work when she received a call about the accident at her home.

She rushed back only to find her husband’s lifeless body being retrieved.
