Footballer Austin Odhiambo has stolen the hearts of Kenyans in the recent Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

President William Ruto had promised to give each player KSh 1 million for every match they won, and Odhiambo and his teammates received the promised amount.
During an interview with Citizen TV, his parents couldn't hide how proud they were watching him play.
Austin's mum, Evaline Otieno, made a revelation. Immediately after his son's account was credited with the money, he shared it with them.

He sent money to his father and mother's account first, an act that left his mum beaming with pride, their son had remembered them.
"The moment the money hit his account, he immediately sent it to us. We were the first to receive it. He asked, ‘Mum and Dad, are you at home? I’ve sent you something on your phone.’ He sent mine to my phone and his father’s to his father’s phone," she said.
His father remembered how much Austin loved football as a child, even when resources were scarce.
He said:
"Alipenda mpira ile unafungwa na kamba sikujua utamu wa boli lakini yeye"
Austin's story is one of talent, hard work, and humble beginnings. He went from playing with a makeshift ball to representing Kenya on the continental stage.
