A cloud of grief has engulfed a family in Makueni county following the death of their beloved daughter, Jackline Musyoki.

Jackline was set to wed her partner, James, on Saturday, August 16, but tragically passed away exactly one week before her wedding.

The mother of one and her 10-year-old daughter were travelling alongside four other family members after attending her dowry ceremony.

What happened to the Makueni bride?

Jackline and the other victims were travelling in a private car on Saturday, August 9, when it reportedly lost control along the Kibwezi–Kitui Highway.

The vehicle is said to have rolled several times in the Utafiti, Kisayani area, killing three people on the spot.

Kibwezi Base Commander Morris Situma, while confirming the tragedy, said two survivors were transferred to the Kibwezi AMREF Hospital for treatment.

However, one other victim succumbed to injuries while at the hospital, as the remaining survivor was left hospitalised with serious injuries.

What did Jackline’s family say?

The incident left the bride-to-be’s family devastated, recalling the beautiful ceremony they had just held while finalising preparations for Jackline’s wedding.

Her brother-in-law, Shadrack Kilonzo, said they bid Jackline and the other family members goodbye at around 7 pm after the dowry payment ceremony.

“They were heading to their home in Kinyambu. We lost our sister-in-law and her daughter, Queen, her mother, and another relative,” said Shadrack.

Jackline’s sister, Jacinta, mourned her as someone who took on the motherly role in her life.

She explained that she did her schooling while living with Jackline, who provided everything she needed.

“Jackline’s wedding plans were underway, and now all the wedding contribution and planning groups have been converted into funeral arrangements,” the emotional sister stated.

Shadrack added that they had already prepared their wedding attire and paid for transport, among other things, in readiness for Jackline’s wedding.

How did Ena Coach bus accident occur?

TUKO.co.ke reported that an Ena Coach bus headed to Kehancha from Nairobi crashed along the Maai Mahiu–Narok Highway on Sunday, August 10.

In a statement, Ena Coach Bus Company explained that a truck lost its brakes while descending the escarpment and hit their bus from the rear, causing the accident.

The bus was carrying 47 passengers and three crew members, two of whom, a female passenger and a child lost their lives.
