Kisumu: Victims of Naki Bus Accident Set to Be Buried in Mass Burial Ceremony, Date Announced

Kisumu, Kenya: Days after the horrible Naki bus accident on the Kisumu-Kakamega roundabout, the funeral committee has announced that they are going to have a mass burial for the victims.

On August 8, 21 people were killed after the bus they were travelling in overturned at the Coptic roundabout. The latter is a well-known black spot in Mamboleo, Kisumu.

Sadly, twenty others were injured in the carnage, with five being admitted for critical injuries, at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

It emerged that the bus was ferrying tens of mourners, and all was well until it got to the roundabout, where it experienced a common mishap. Now, a village is mourning 21 people who were only recently hale and hearty.

How is Kisumu woman coping after losing 13 kin?

For a certain family, the pain is tenfold, as they lost 13 members in the grisly accident. Apart from the financial implications, there is the issue of healing, which will not be very easy for them.

At the time, authorities announced immediate measures to assist all affected households, focusing on treatment, counselling, and coordinated relief efforts.

Kisumu's top leadership also called for road safety improvements after the incident at the long-criticised accident hotspot.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the funeral committee shared that they were going to hold a mass burial service for the 25 victims on Saturday, August 16.

"The removal of the bodies from the morgue will take place on Friday, August 15, and the mass burial ceremony will be held at Naki Secondary School," said the committee.

The village, through the funeral committee chairman Eng Kodera Adah, former Kisumu County roads Cabinet Secretary, has asked citizens of the Republic of Kenya, politicians, business people, friends and relatives to contribute towards the funeral kitty.

"There are over 10 children who have been left vulnerable due to the death of their parents. The pay bill number is as below," said Kodera.
