"I woke up in the morning and decided to do some cleaning. I was sweeping when I was hit by a pungent odour. I traced the smell and looked through the curtain from where it was coming. I called a friend and asked why there were insects in the house and such a strong smell," she shared.
Innocent's relationship with his neighbour
Innocent’s neighbour said they could not do much, so they called a man to come and give them instructions.
She said no one knew for sure if there was a dead person inside, but the smell raised suspicion.
"Even on the third and fourth day, he was inside, but we didn’t know that Innocent was dead. He used to knock on my door and request water or even food. Sometimes I would take the food to him, and he would bring back the utensils the following day.
I was not around for a couple of days, so I wouldn’t have known whether he was around or not. We do not know if he was sick or what happened. I have never seen him with a bottle of beer or abusing any substances," she said.
Did Innocent have more than one hustle?
The woman said the man they called came and checked through the window, only to find Innocent dead.
She confirmed that his body did not have any injuries or marks suggesting a struggle.
"Innocent was a miner and boda boda operator, but he had said his motorbike needed repairs, so he was not going to work for a while. He used to leave his house in the evening, but during the day, he was always at home," she added.
Why young men should not live alone
Tobias, another of Innocent’s neighbours, advised young men in Arusha, Tanzania, not to live alone following the heartbreaking discovery.

"If he had been living with someone, it would have been easier to know what was ailing him—whether he was mentally disturbed or physically unwell. Living alone these days is not advisable, and I would urge young men not necessarily to marry but to live with someone—a friend, relative, or partner," he said.
