The woman left their home and moved back to her mother’s house in Mpunga village.
Angered by the move, Chibwe followed his wife and waited until the mother and daughter were asleep before launching the attack.
Luapula police commanding officer, Mwala Yuyi, while confirming the incident, stated that the suspect broke into the house and immediately began strangling his mother-in-law.
Efforts by Dryness to stop him proved futile, and he managed to kill the 62-year-old. Yuyi added that after the killing, Chibwe also assaulted his wife for trying to rescue her mother.
Fortunately, her screams woke up neighbours, who rushed in time to save her from her estranged husband’s fury.
Was Luapula man arrested?
According to the police commander, the deceased had a dislocated neck, while her daughter sustained injuries to her body.
Dryness was admitted to Chibondo Rural Health Centre with a swollen right eye, a head injury, and general body pains.
According to Zambian Observer, Chibwe was arrested, and the body of the deceased was taken to Mambilima Mission Hospital Mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.

Adrian:
“He’s got anger issues, and his wife’s separation likely stemmed from his behaviour. It’s a powerful reminder that focusing on self-love and choosing oneself is crucial when relationships aren’t working. She made a bold move by putting her own needs first, and that’s something to admire. Don’t let societal expectations dictate your life; focus on what truly matters to you.”
Petronella Kalunga:
“So, even leaving a broken home alive has now become a death trap? This makes for sad reading.”
Yvonne Mulenga:
“Hmmmm! So sad. No wonder I don’t rush to my parents whenever we fight. Better I hide somewhere. Ten years ago, a police officer shot his mother-in-law just after taking his wife back for two weeks, then handed himself in at the police station.”
Mary Chico Mumba:
“No relationship is perfect, and we live by reconciling with one another. Find a person who is mature enough and able to understand you. People fight in their homes but privately sit down to discuss matters, that’s how life goes. Don’t just pick anyone and say, this is my wife, this is my husband."
