The dramatic incident unfolded aboard a recent transatlantic flight when the woman fell critically ill at 30,000 feet.

Why Air France plane made emergency landing

With no doctor available on board, the captain diverted the aircraft to St John’s, Newfoundland, for an emergency landing so she could be rushed to hospital care.

But instead of expressing gratitude, the passenger reportedly raised her middle finger at flight attendants as paramedics wheeled her off the plane.

The crew’s shock was later echoed by the pilot himself, who announced the bizarre twist over the PA system.

“Ladies and gentlemen, you’ll be happy to know that our passenger, which we saved her life, was a bit angry to be offloaded from the aircraft,” the captain said dryly. “She gave us the finger when leaving the aircraft, and she started being very angry at the hospital, that’s it.”

Social media reactions

A TikTok video of the captain’s announcement, posted by @ish.bish, has since gone viral with more than 3.9 million views.

Many online applauded the pilot’s “sassy” delivery in calling out the woman’s ungrateful behaviour, while others praised the crew’s professionalism despite the insult.

Glenn Warr:

"People are strange. So many crooked people moving out and about in society these days. Well done to the AF crew."

Alicia Sonshine Fort

"I had a passenger write a complaint that the FAs were too invasive in assisting her with her sick child, especially because they informed the captain. Mind you, the child had vomited multiple times, and the parent asked for medical intervention."

"Oh my God! I think I had this pilot coming home from Europe this summer. Same accent and also gave us so many non-flight-related updates and gossip."

Jen 🇨🇦:

"I was once on a flight where a woman forced an emergency landing, claiming she was having a heart attack. After we landed, she refused to get off the plane. I guess she thought we'd wait for her to be treated."

Air France had not issued an official comment on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Panic as passenger tries to open door mid-air

In an unrelated incident, All Nippon Airways' Flight 114 made an emergency landing in Seattle after a passenger tried to open two exit doors mid-air.

It took the intervention of two military veterans on board who restrained the man using zip ties, preventing a potential disaster.

Authorities stated the man was experiencing a medical crisis and was taken to a hospital upon landing.
