Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga identified the deceased as 22-year-old Abel Nsapato, a fourth-year medical student at Ridgeway Campus, who was reported missing on August 9.

Where was Abel Nsapato's body found?

Mwebantu reports that police received a report from Kalingalinga ward Councillor, Mukubesa Nyoni, who alerted them after a body was discovered behind Sun City Hotel near Muvi TV.

Upon receipt of the report, officers rushed to the scene and found the body of a male adult in a semi-decomposed state, lying in a supine position.

Details indicate that the deceased man was dressed in black jeans, a light-blue sweatshirt, and black-and-white canvas shoes.

"Dead flies were observed on the face and body, and an empty pesticide bottle was found nearby, suggesting death by poisoning,” Hamoonga said.

Results of Abel Nsapato's autopsy

The body was later deposited at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where a postmortem confirmed preliminary findings consistent with poisoning.

It is, however, yet to be determined conclusively whether the substance was taken voluntarily or if foul play was involved.

Hamoonga said the late student was laid to rest today at Mutumbi Cemetery in Chamba Valley.

He further urged members of the public to seek counselling, psychosocial support, or professional help when dealing with distress.
