Peter Ayiro: Alliance Girls’ Teacher's Resignation Letter Sparks Reactions as He Denies Misconduct

The resignation of Alliance Girls High School teacher, Peter Albert Ayiro, has sparked mixed reactions after he strongly denied allegations of misconduct in a letter to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Ayiro said he was stepping down “with immediate effect” after 6 years of service, citing persistent cyberbullying, threats to his safety, public humiliation, and social isolation.

Ayiro noted that the decision had not come easily, as it was a result of the false accusations levelled against him.
"I continue to endure evil, monstrous and persistent cyberbullying, threats of physical harm, public humiliation, and even being ostracised from my church,” his letter partly read.
Ayiro added that his character and career had been unfairly attacked, but maintained gratitude to the commission for the opportunity to serve.
Peter Ayiro pays TSC KSh 105k
The outgoing teacher expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work under the commission, stating that he had gained “invaluable experience and growth” during his tenure.
He also confirmed settling one month’s salary in lieu of notice, attaching an M-Pesa transaction of KSh 105,000 to TSC.
With the proof of payment attached, Ayro requested clearance and guidance on exit procedures.
"Kindly acknowledge receipt of this resignation, and please advise on the necessary clearance and exit procedures,” he wrote.

What was Peter Ayiro accused of?
His resignation follows protests by Alliance Girls alumni, who have been demanding his removal over claims of preying on and assaulting students.
The allegations have fueled public debate, with many weighing in on social media about the need to protect students against teacher misconduct.
The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) added that Ayiro should be thoroughly investigated and, if found guilty, faces the full force of the law as a warning to others.
As of the time of filing this report, TSC has not yet issued a formal response to the resignation or the allegations.

Ayiro was facing interdiction
Before his resignation, TSC had been instructed to interdict Ayiro over the alleged illicit affairs with learners.
Basic Education PS Julius Bitok said the government would not tolerate the habit of teachers taking advantage of their students' naivety.
Bitok confirmed that plans were underway to arrest the teacher in question as investigations into the case began.
