Samuel Githaiga, once a successful spare parts dealer in Nairobi’s Grogon area, had been battling depression and deteriorating health following the collapse of his businesses.

How Samuel Githaiga died

Githaiga's father told TUKO.co.ke that his son had an operation, which developed into a stroke and affected his body.

Family members believe the family man collapsed because his lifeless body was found in the house in the morning.

His story started on July 27 after he was dramatically found lying in a drainage channel near Ngong Bus Park in what family members described as another desperate attempt on his life.

Just months earlier, Githaiga had survived after jumping from the second floor of a building, escaping with minor injuries.

His struggles, according to family, were compounded by mounting medical issues, having gone through a difficult period in the last few years.

Once a thriving entrepreneur who owned several shops, two cars, and even set up a beauty shop for his wife in the CBD, Githaiga saw his fortunes dwindle drastically.

"He suffered a stroke and even spent time in the ICU,” said Mwangi, who rushed to Ngong to pick him up when he was found.

At the time he was found, Githaigal’s wife, Naomi Wambui, revealed that he had been due for radiotherapy treatment but could not proceed due to a lack of funds.

“We did not have any money, so he could not undergo radiotherapy. His health kept deteriorating, and at times his head would swell,” she said.

His family was eventually forced to move from a two-bedroom house to a single room in Zimmerman.

“Life became hard, and it affected my husband’s health. I think he never accepted the situation,” Wambui added.

Githaiga hailed from Rwathia, Kangema in Murang’a County, and is survived by his wife and four children.
