What was Joseph's defense?

"The lady is only showing what she sent but has not showed what she received. She says that I used to receive KSh 20,000 every month, I would like to know how much was getting into her account," the accused man, Joseph, said.
"You have accepted everything at face value, without confirming anything. Please just confirm. We should calculate from the money she gave me, and the money I gave her until then," said Joseph.

Joseph said he got KSh 420,173, all things considered, but Mercy said she gave him KSh 957,000; after his money was subtracted, it amounted to KSh 831,665.

"If you look at the document he sent me a statement with about KSh 700,000, and I only used to send home only KSh 20,000," said Mercy.

Mercy alleged that Joseph bribed the police in Meru, and he managed to run away.

"I have really tried everywhere; he has been very rude, and has been insulting me the way he wants; he said my head is full of mucus," she said.
