Telvin Mokua's car accident
The 28-year-old told TUKO.co.ke that the life-changing incident occurred at around 8 pm on the night of August 9 along the Huruma area.
He had a brush with death when a speeding driver who had allegedly been drinking lost control of his vehicle and rammed head-on into him.
Mokua, who was on his way home from the town, remembers nothing after the blinding headlights and the screech of metal.
When he regained consciousness, he was in excruciating pain, his leg and hip shattered.
“The doctors told me I was lucky to survive,” Mokua said softly from his hospital bed at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Longonot Ward Cube 2, Bed 16.
How to contribute for Telvin Mokua
He disclosed that since the driver was drunk and speeding, he would have died if the impact had been worse.
Though alive, Mokua’s future now hangs in the balance. He needs urgent surgery to insert metal implants in his hip and leg, a procedure that costs about KSh 80,000.
Without it, he cannot sit, walk, or rebuild his life.
“I survived the crash, but now I’m pleading for another miracle,” he added. “I just want to stand again, to live a normal life. Any support, no matter how small, will help me get back on my feet.”
Well-wishers willing to help can send their contributions through Paybill 522533, Account Number 7959727.
Mokua’s story is another sobering reminder of the dangers of drunk driving, a reckless act that continues to rob many of their health, dreams, and lives.
