A young man from Bungoma County is counting his blessings after surviving a horrific road accident caused by a drunk driver in Eldoret earlier this month.

Telvin Mokua, who hails from Makhanga location in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma North Sub-county, was on his way home from Eldoret town when tragedy struck.

The 28-year-old told TUKO.co.ke that the life-changing incident occurred at around 8 pm on the night of August 9 along the Huruma area.

He had a brush with death when a speeding driver who had allegedly been drinking lost control of his vehicle and rammed head-on into him.

Mokua, who was on his way home from the town, remembers nothing after the blinding headlights and the screech of metal.

When he regained consciousness, he was in excruciating pain, his leg and hip shattered.

“The doctors told me I was lucky to survive,” Mokua said softly from his hospital bed at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Longonot Ward Cube 2, Bed 16.

He disclosed that since the driver was drunk and speeding, he would have died if the impact had been worse.

Though alive, Mokua’s future now hangs in the balance. He needs urgent surgery to insert metal implants in his hip and leg, a procedure that costs about KSh 80,000.

Without it, he cannot sit, walk, or rebuild his life.

“I survived the crash, but now I’m pleading for another miracle,” he added. “I just want to stand again, to live a normal life. Any support, no matter how small, will help me get back on my feet.”
