Murang'a: Mum, Siblings of Woman Found Dead in River with Baby Weep While Viewing Body at Morgue

Murang'a, Kenya: Wails, weeping, and fainting have dominated the day as friends and family got a chance to view the bodies of Virginia Njeri and her son Adrina Mejja, who were found dead in a river.

Njeri, who was from Kinyona, and her dear baby Adrian, whom she loved very much, had been missing for days.

After she went quiet for some time, her family got concerned and started sending notices to their friends and family, who all denied having seen or communicated with her and asked them to share the message widely.

They also reported the matter to the police, who also shared the last moments of Njeri and Baby Adrian. Influencer Karagu Muraya was roped in to help them, and finally, it emerged that the two had drowned in the River Thiririka.

A video showed the police struggling to remove the body of the baby from the water and take it to General Kago Hospital mortuary.

Did Njeri's husband see her?

It later emerged that Njeri was a married woman, and when things went south in her union, she ran to her uncle's place in Githurai to seek refuge.

The bodies of the two were taken to General Kago Mortuary, and her husband skipped the post-mortem. He was also nowhere to be seen at the funeral home.

At the funeral home, people started viewing the bodies of the two, and Njeri's parents led the pack. Njeri's mother was being held by two women, but she was still going down because of grief. All the time, she was weeping for a life gone too soon.

For the young brothers, the first one started weeping as soon as he walked through the door of the morgue as soon as she stepped into the door. The younger one tried to hold his own and later also wept.

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, psychologist Dr. Peter Mwangi said Virginia Njeri’s case highlights stigma, silence, and marital struggles devastating Kenyan families.

Karangu Muraya mourns Njeri and son

Karangu Muraya, a famous philanthropist and influencer, was devastated to learn that Njeri and her son were both dead.

Karangu received the news of the disappearance of the two and swung into action, trying to look for her through his page. The woman sought help to find their kin and wanted the message taken far and wide.
