Ex-Kisii gubernatorial candidate Emeritus Josiah Onyancha died alongside his wife Hellen following a road accident.
The two had left home on Wednesday, August 6, to make it to Nairobi county in time for Friday, August 8.
How did Josiah Onyancha, his wife die?
Unfortunately, they were involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota tanker that had reportedly lost control due to brake failure, leading to the fatal accident that claimed both their lives along the Narok–Maai Mahiu Highway.
They had travelled for two hours when their lives were cut short at Olulunga in Narok county.
They were heading to attend their son's graduation when tragedy struck, leaving not only their family but other Kenyans in mourning.
They were the parents of Standard Media Group journalist Edwin Nyarangi and his brother DJ Darius.
Esther Okenyuri mourns Josiah Onyancha, his wife
On their burial date, several prominent people attended the ceremony as they condoled with the grieving family, joining fellow mourners in paying tribute to the lovebirds.
"Prof. Josiah lived a life grounded in faith, sharing God's word daily not just by word of mouth but in action too. His wife, Mrs. Hellen Onyancha, taught her children the significance of standing with each other through every season of life. Prof. Josiah was eulogised as one who inspired his children with his academic accomplishments and his passion for learning. Equally, Mrs. Hellen was hailed as a good mother who acted as the glue keeping the family together.
It cannot be denied that the shock and disbelief that ensue following the passing on of both parents is immense. The absence of both parents leaves an indelible void with feelings of sadness and guilt of things unsaid and undone. A sudden departure could further possibly leave a family fragmented," nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri wrote.
