Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Bernard recounted how he first laid eyes on the woman who would later become his wife.
How Bernard met would-be wife
At the time, she was known in the neighbourhood for her reserved nature and aversion to engaging with men.
“I was told she didn’t talk to men and was quite unfriendly,” Bernard said. “But there was something about her that drew me in. I couldn’t shake the feeling.”
One day, while standing outside their gate, Bernard saw his crush walking by—this time in distress. She was experiencing a nosebleed.
Despite never having handled such a situation before, he instinctively drew from something he had once seen his father do.
“I remembered my dad putting a wet handkerchief on someone’s forehead to stop a nosebleed. I tried the same, and to my surprise, it worked,” he recalled.
That act of kindness not only stopped the bleeding but also melted the ice between them and endeared her to him.
How has Bernard's 15-year marriage been?
What began as a spontaneous gesture turned into a meaningful conversation—the first of many. The chance encounter blossomed into a strong friendship that eventually grew into love.
That is not to say the relationship has been smooth sailing all through, as they have had incidents when they nearly broke up.
"In 2017, we had serious challenges in our marriage, and she left but went to our home for a meeting with my mother," he recalled.
Today, 15 years later, Bernard and his wife remain happily together, sharing a bond that was sparked by compassion and sealed by destiny.
They are parents to three wonderful children and are glad that fate brought them together in the manner it did.
