In 2002, shortly after giving birth to their daughter, the couple began living together, a move that Faiza welcomed with both hands. Back then, her husband was a trained teacher but unemployed.
To support the family, Faiza took on menial jobs, even borrowing heavily from microfinance institutions to build a home and sustain them.
“I took loans from three different microfinances — a total of KSh 700,000,” she shared, revealing that she only recently completed repaying the debt, nearly a decade later.
When did Faiza's husband change attitude?
But once he secured a teaching job, the man’s attitude changed. He grew arrogant and abusive, locking her in the house for days, disappearing without a word, and returning at will.
In one horrific instance, he beat her so badly that she lost a pregnancy. Despite the pain, Faiza says she tried to hold the marriage together, hopeful that things would improve.

“I wanted it to work because I loved him. He was my first everything,” she said.
However, on July 10, 2012, she made the difficult decision to leave — and she never looked back, leaving behind the house they built together as long as she saved herself.

When did Faiza's husband die?
Seven years after their separation, Faiza learned that her ex-husband had fallen ill and later died. By then, she had moved to Nairobi to find work and provide for their children, whom she raised alone.
Although years have passed, the trauma of her past still lingers.
“I still have a phobia of marriage,” she admitted. “But I thank God my children are grown now.”
Interestingly, Faiza disclosed that as much as he ex mistreated her, she never wished him death and felt sad when he died.
She oftentimes thinks about the past and imagines how much they would have achieved together if he had dropped the misbehaviour and let them build a future together.
“Mungu amenitoa kwa mambo mob sana. Yaani Mungu ananipenda kabisa,” she added, tearfully recounting the suffering she endured.
Faiza’s story is a powerful reminder that walking away from abuse is not failure but an act of self-preservation.
Lady leaves marriage after 5 months
Elsewhere, a married woman reportedly left her marriage of five months despite the debt her husband incurred to throw her a lavish wedding party.
It emerged that the young bride left the marriage because her husband was struggling to pay the loan he had taken to fund the wedding.
Her revelation rubbed several social media users the wrong way, as they condemned her for her actions.
