Yusra Mbarak sustained injuries to her hands and legs due to the prolonged hours during which they were tightly bound with rope.

What happened to Mombasa woman?

Yusra claimed that her husband, Ismael, spiked her drink before fleeing with their three children.

“He offered to bring me a drink, and I suspect he laced it with something because after taking it, I lost consciousness. I can’t recall what happened next,” she said.

The mother of three noted that before fully losing consciousness, she began to feel extremely weak, though she could still see what was happening around her.

She explained that Ismael was accompanied by another man, who helped him tie her up.

“They held my hands behind my back and tied them, then bound my legs together as well,” she recalled.

Yusra’s sister, Jahi Mbarak, said Ismael contacted someone and asked them to inform the family to rescue her after two days, warning that she would die if they didn’t act fast.

“He told someone to tell us that my sister was locked inside the house and we should hurry to save her before it was too late,” Jahi said.

Why did Ismael drug wife and kidnap his children?

The mother of three revealed that she had been married to Ismael for more than 12 years but had recently asked for a divorce.

She recounted that as he tied her up, she reminded him that they had children together. However, he coldly replied that her request for divorce was the reason he was doing it.

Relatives said neighbours were shocked when they broke down the door and rescued her.

Mohamed Ali, Yusra’s nephew, noted that neighbours recalled seeing someone who resembled Yusra wearing a buibui and leaving with the children days earlier.

“Ismael disguised himself in a buibui to deceive onlookers and easily take the children away,” Mohamed said.

Doctor’s report on Yusra’s condition

Dr Hussein Jeilan, who attended to Yusra at the hospital, said she was unable to move her hands or fingers when she was brought in, and no pulse could be detected.

“If she had arrived three hours later, her hands could have developed gangrene, which might have resulted in amputation,” he explained.

The family has reported the matter to the police, and investigations are ongoing as authorities continue the search for Ismael and the three children.
