In a deeply personal and courageous revelation on TikTok, she disclosed that she had kept the story hidden from everyone for most of her life.

Why Rotheli kept her sexuality secret

She clarified that she did not conceal the information because she was ashamed of who she is, but because she was afraid of what people might think.

Rodz was born with a rare intersex condition, medically referred to as hermaphroditism, meaning she was born with both male and female sexual characteristics.

Though extremely rare, affecting perhaps one in several million births, it is a reality for a small but significant number of people worldwide.

"I didn’t understand what made me different growing up. I just knew I had to keep it a secret," Rotheli recounted.

She added that doctors told her parents what to expect and did everything they could to help her live a normal life.

But nothing prepares one for the way the world sees difference as navigating childhood and adolescence came with unique and painful challenges.

School was difficult, but locker rooms were worse. Rotheli says they became "a master at hiding physically, emotionally, socially."

Why Rotheli opened up

Yet through years of therapy, medical consultation, and connection with others living similar lives, Rotheli has found peace.

"This condition doesn’t define me," she said. "I’ve spent years learning about myself medically, emotionally, and psychologically. I’ve learned to accept my body for what it is, not what society says it should be."

Rotheli says the decision to come forward now isn’t about seeking sympathy or attention but about honesty, healing, and helping others feel less alone.

Rotheli accepted her fate

She reiterated that she chose to speak openly because she wants to give others the courage to be themselves, whatever their differences may be.

"We are more than our bodies. We are the stories we choose to tell."

Her brave disclosure adds to the growing conversation around intersex identity, acceptance, and the broader spectrum of human biology.

By stepping into the light, Rodz Rotheli offers a beacon of hope for others who have spent too long hiding in the shadows.

Over the years, most Kenyan tribes have branded people living with intersex conditions as taboo cases.

Others considered them to have an abnormality or some deficiencies within their bodies, which led to almost all of them hiding from the public due to the stereotypes attached to them.

For this reason, most of them could not be accounted for as they do not give correct details due to stigmatisation.
