A young woman from Nairobi has shared a heartbreaking account of how she found out her boyfriend was married with a child, after dating him for nine months.

Ivy revealed that she had been in a serious relationship with a man named Edwin (not his real name). Despite being deeply in love, she admits there were red flags she ignored because he treated her well and appeared genuinely committed.
“The first time I visited his house, he showed me around but he hesitated to open the second bedroom. When I insisted, he said it belonged to his sister who lives abroad, and told me not to be alarmed if I found a diaper or baby clothes,” Ivy shared.
Convinced by his explanations and gestures like planning multiple dates outside the house, Ivy felt secure in the relationship.

What red flags did Ivy see while dating?
During one of her visits, Ivy spotted a photo of Edwin, a woman, and a child. When she asked about it, he claimed the woman was his late sister and the child was hers.
“He said the photo brought back painful memories, and I believed him,” she said.
Five months into the relationship, Edwin cancelled a date, saying his sister from abroad was returning and he needed to attend to her. He went quiet for four days before resurfacing, saying he had been spending time with his family to mark the anniversary of his late sister’s death.
“It was hard to stay angry at him. He always knew what to say and how to make me believe him,” Ivy admitted.

The shocking truth unravelled when Ivy attended her cousin’s child’s graduation ceremony. Coincidentally, Edwin had told her he would be in Uganda on a business trip and would be unreachable.
At the event, children were receiving awards while accompanied by their parents at the podium. Ivy was stunned when Edwin’s name was called out as the father of a boy who placed third, and he walked up to the stage holding hands with the same woman he had claimed was his deceased sister.
“He made eye contact with me from the podium. I immediately took a photo and sent it to him, asking whether he had a twin, or else he needed to explain himself.”
Unable to contain her rage, Ivy waited for the moment Edwin’s wife left to fetch lunch for their child, then confronted him. He first claimed she was mistaking him for his brother.
When she called his phone in front of him, it rang in his pocket. As he fumbled for an explanation, his wife returned, and he introduced Ivy as “an intern.”
Despite this, Edwin tried to contact Ivy in the following days, asking for forgiveness and a second chance.
She later discovered that his wife had been away in the village for those nine months, taking care of Edwin’s ailing mother, explaining how he had managed to maintain the double life.
