She explained that Edward would often love-bomb her, showering her with roses and gifts, which she greatly appreciated.

"The relationship started off really well, but it also deteriorated very quickly. We had consistent highs and lows, and a lot of toxicity, which I seemed to have become accustomed to," she shared.

After graduation, the two moved in together and eventually got engaged in 2018, hoping their relationship would improve.

Did Amanda marry her ex-husband twice?

She shared that Edward was an immigrant from Mexico and was not a U.S. citizen, so they chose to get married as soon as possible to address his immigration status.

“We got officially married at the courthouse in December 2019. He convinced me to do so, saying we could save money and hold a separate wedding with friends and family later on,” said Amanda.

She recalled how Edward didn’t want any family members present at the civil ceremony, but she insisted that her own family attend.

For Amanda, a wedding wasn’t complete without loved ones, so her parents and sisters joined them at the ceremony. However, Edward’s family declined the invitation.

When was Amanda’s second wedding?

Nearly a year later, Amanda began planning their formal wedding, intending to include all family members.

“Despite being legally married, we wanted a church wedding that would bring our families together and I was so excited,” she said.

Amanda noted that Edward completely withdrew from the planning process. He didn’t show any interest or contribute financially to the preparations, leaving her to handle everything on her own.

Despite his indifference, lack of cooperation, and the constant arguments, Amanda pressed on with the arrangements in time for their church wedding in September 2020.

“He said he didn’t care, that he never wanted a wedding, and that it was all my idea. He never spent time with me and would pretend to visit his family constantly, giving me the silent treatment,” she said.

When Amanda tried to find out what was wrong, Edward only said he was dealing with personal issues, often disappearing from home for days.

She recounted the emotional turmoil she endured, clinging to hope that her husband would change, even after he vanished three days before the wedding.

On the big day, Amanda said Edward ignored her entirely, even as they exchanged vows. It was then that she realised she may have made a huge mistake.

Why did Amanda’s ex-husband ask for divorce?

On the day after the wedding, Edward’s family began packing up to leave, despite an earlier agreement that they would stay at a rented Airbnb for three days.

The devastated bride explained that she had spent money to ensure everyone could enjoy three days of celebration, only to be abandoned by Edward and his family.

“I went out of my way to make it a Mexican-themed wedding. I invested time and money to include his culture, but they left us with all the food and everything else we had ordered,” she said.

The second and third days were even worse. Amanda developed a rash on her body due to anxiety, and Edward refused to let her touch him. He didn’t accompany her to the hospital or show any concern for her pain.

Eventually, she mustered the courage to ask him if he wanted to leave her—and he nodded.

Heartbroken, Amanda began arguing with him, questioning why he didn’t call off the wedding earlier and why he suddenly lost interest.

“He told me I sucked the air out of the room, that he hated me. He admitted to doing drugs because he couldn’t tolerate me anymore and said he never wanted to live with me again,” she said.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Amanda walked out and went to her cousin’s house to confide in her and escape the pain.

The two eventually divorced, leaving Amanda questioning how the many years they had spent together from college through marriage meant nothing to him.
