He is alleged to have used his police-issued AK-47 rifle to shoot his estranged wife, 41-year-old Womba Samulozela, and her stepbrother, Wanna Samulozela, 42, before turning the weapon on himself.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found all three bodies in the same room.

Womba and Wanna were discovered lying on the floor, while Muyembi’s body was partially on the bed.

Forensic examination at the scene revealed that Womba sustained a gunshot wound on the left side of her ribs, with an exit wound on her back.

Wanna was shot on the left side of the ribs, but without an exit wound, while Muyembi had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right side of the neck, with an exit wound at the back of the head.

The murder weapon, an AK-47 rifle with serial number 1674, was found clamped to Muyembi’s chest with the safety catch open.

Family dispute led to Solwezi deaths

Police records show that Muyembi had signed out the firearm earlier that morning at 5.05 am, reportedly to follow up on a case at Mutanda.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Officer Muyembi used a spare key to access the home.

It has further been established that he and Womba had separated just two days prior, on July 30, following prolonged marital conflict.

The late Dr Wanna Samulozela, a medical doctor recently transferred to Solwezi Provincial Health Office, had been staying with the couple at the time of the incident.

Where are the 3 Solwezi bodies?

All three bodies have been transported to Solwezi General Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations and burial arrangements.

Police say a full-scale investigation has been launched.

“This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of resolving domestic disputes through peaceful and lawful means,” said Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga.
