As photos of the couple starting a new life together went viral online, some female lawyers aren’t taking the news lightly.

LSK Upcountry Representative hopeful Faith Jappan told TUKO.co.ke that "exhaustion of local remedies" is a principle in law that requires a person to utilise the avenues closest to them before seeking similar services elsewhere.

"Our member has left 5,000 unmarried sister colleagues of the High Court of Kenya and married a fine damsel outside the profession. Painful by a lot!" she wrote on Facebook.

According to her, Jack should have considered eligible female advocates before turning to the entertainment industry.

Reactions from other female lawyers

Another lamented:

“LSK needs to organise a conference for the unmarried female lawyers. The situation is getting out of hand!”

“But we only see the cute ones in virtual courts, huko kwa games noma,” joked another, alluding to the rising popularity of online court sessions that may be hampering real-world mingling among colleagues.

The most stinging yet hilarious comment came from one advocate who stated:

“Female lawyers are very jealous. I’ve never heard men complaining that a female wakili has been married by an outsider—yet it happens every day.”

Kenyan lawyers married to each other

As photos from the wedding continue to make rounds online, the legal community’s playful frustration serves as comic relief in what was a joyous union.

Whether or not LSK will heed calls for a “single lawyers’ conference” remains to be seen.

Despite the banter, it’s worth noting that inter-lawyer unions remain common, especially in legal hubs like Nairobi and Mombasa.
