Man Allegedly Murdered by Wife and Brother-in-Law in Suspected Domestic Violence Incident

A 69-year-old man has been brutally murdered in a shocking case of suspected domestic violence involving his wife and her brother in Chingola.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pethias Siandenge, confirmed the incident in a statement released to the media, identifying the deceased as Edward Kateule.

How was Edward Kateule killed?

Nkani reports that Kateule died following a violent altercation with his wife, Abigail Namwelu, aged 44, and her brother, Mutale Alex.

According to police reports, the fatal assault took place between the night of August 3 and the morning of August 4.

The confrontation is believed to have started as a domestic dispute between Kateule and Namwelu, with both parties reportedly intoxicated at the time.

Reports indicate that the situation worsened when Namwelu’s brother, Alex, joined the fray and assisted his sister in beating the elderly man.

“The situation escalated, and Mr. Kateule was viciously beaten. His body was discovered the following morning by Community Crime Prevention Unit member, John Ngosa,” Siandenge stated.

How was the crime scene?

Upon visiting the scene, police officers found Kateule’s remains with visible and severe injuries, including a swollen head, bleeding nose, deep lacerations, and burn marks.

A blood-stained metal bar, believed to have been used in the deadly assault, was also found near the body.

Siandenge further confirmed that Abigail Namwelu has been arrested and is in police custody, while her brother, Mutale Alex, is currently on the run.

A murder docket has been opened, and investigations are underway to locate the fugitive and bring him to justice.

Where were the bodies taken?

The victim's body has been transferred to Nchanga North Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

The police have urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mutale Alex to come forward and assist in bringing him to justice.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents calling for swift and firm action against perpetrators of domestic violence.

Police officer kills wife, her stepbrother

Elsewhere, a domestic disagreement turned fatal when a police officer turned his service rifle on his wife and her stepbrother.

The officer, identified as Funkuta Muyembi, then turned the AK-47 on himself and fired, leaving three lifeless bodies in the same room.

Details indicate that Womba Samulozela and Funkuta had separated just two days earlier, but no one saw the fatal outcome coming.
