After about a couple of months, Claire's then-love interest, Steve then 64, flew back to Kenya from the United States, and they finally had their chance to meet and go on their first real date.

"By the time he was coming, I was in Mombasa, and I remember he paid a ticket for me to come to Nairobi so that we could finally meet. I knew he was divorced and that we had a huge age gap, but this is the kind of relationship I wanted," she said.

Within months of his return from the United States, Steve and Claire were married in a civil ceremony. Then, a 24-year-old lady tied the knot with her 64-year-old husband.

More than four years after their marriage, Claire has never regretted meeting and getting married to Steve despite their 40-year age gap.

"He has been the best husband. Very understanding and supportive of me," she said.

Claire's struggle with infertility

The young lady revealed that by the time she was 20 years old, she already knew she would struggle with infertility.

"I started having issues in high school and even developed fibroids. In 2016, a year after high school, I underwent surgery, and one of my ovaries was even removed. I remember after that procedure, the doctor said the only thing I could reproduce was through IVF," she said.

Due to this experience, Claire became apprehensive of relationships because she had seen firsthand how women with infertility were and are still being ill-treated in society.

"But I revealed this to Steve, and he was okay with it, especially because he was a divorcee and had kids of his own. This made me feel safe with him. I am not sure a man my own age would have understood my condition," she added.
