It emerged that Lionel, who survived at the scene, was not the intended target, as he had gone to purchase drinks from George for resale when the shooting occurred.

He suffered critical injuries, including puncture wounds to major organs, with doctors initially giving him a 50% chance of survival.

Why Lionel wedded in hospital

With his condition rapidly deteriorating, Lionel expressed one final wish: to marry Lisa, his partner of 17 years.

Nine days after the shooting, the couple, who had been engaged and planned to marry in December, exchanged vows at the hospital.

“That was his wish, so I made it happen,” she said. The couple shared five children, ranging in age from two years old to their early teens.

Surrounded by close family, hospital staff, and the hum of medical machines, the couple exchanged vows in an emotional bedside ceremony.

The union was short-lived. Not long after fulfilling his wish, Lionel passed away, leaving his new wife, family, and friends heartbroken.
