Confusion as Raila Odinga hints at taking on William Ruto in 2027: "ODM itakuwa kwa uwanja"

He will be declaring his partnership with President William Ruto at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Earlier on the day, Ruto chaired a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Parliamentary Group meeting at State House Nairobi, to deliberate on the oncoming working partnership.

The president, while rallying his troops behind the pact, said the country's unity was his priority and that he would cooperate with those aligning with that.

“This is the time to put Kenya and the people ahead of any other consideration. We will work together, our political inclinations notwithstanding, to take our country forward. Kenya, and the people, must succeed. At State House, Nairobi, chaired the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting,” the president said.

Ruto and Raila's unforeseen friendship was sparked by the AUC chairmanship election, for which Raila declared interest in early 2024.

The president offered to support Raila in his bid; he even deployed resources and teams to strategise for the ODM boss as the latter traversed the continent to sell his bid.

How Raila saved Ruto from youth revolt

The friendship happened to be of importance to Ruto as he faced a tough revolt from the Kenyan youth in 2024.

The activities forced the president to be grounded in the country and shun international trips which he had previously called out for.

A breach into the National Assembly on June 25, 2025, marked the climax of the insurgence which threatened Ruto's tenure.

It took the intervention of Raila to intervene and stabilise things; he called his troops on the ground that had joined the protests to sit back and give the national dialogue a chance.
