During a roundtable media interview on Monday, March 31, Ruto disclosed that Muturi was never comfortable with his appointment as the Attorney General.
Ruto stated that he convinced the former National Assembly Speaker to take up the job despite his reservations.
"When I appointed my friend JB Muturi to be Kenya's Attorney General, he himself came to me and explained that he had been out of legal practice for too long, and he would be overwhelmed by the appointment. I gave him the benefit of doubt and persuaded him to take it up, but after some time, I saw it was taking a toll on him, as he had earlier hinted to me. I take responsibility for not having listened to him earlier," Ruto said.

Did Justin Muturi miss Cabinet meetings?
The president explained that after Muturi was allegedly overwhelmed by the Attorney General's roles, he opted to appoint him as a CS.
However, as the Public Service CS, Muturi allegedly began creating many excuses for his frequent absences from Cabinet meetings.
According to Ruto, the former Public Service CS fired himself after he failed to perform his duties as a government official.
"I then decided to switch him up to a Cabinet secretary position, hoping he would settle in, only for him to start making excuses on why he wasn't turning up for work. Let me ask you people, if someone absconds duty, is it me who fired him or he's the one who fired himself? I gave my friend JB Muturi a second chance, but in the process, he decided to dismiss himself," the president said.
However, the head of state said Muturi will not suffer much after his sacking, given that he has a good pension for having served as the National Assembly speaker.

Why Muturi never attended Cabinet meetings
As reported earlier, Muturi publicly stated why he missed several Cabinet meetings.
Speaking on Citizen TV, the former National Assembly speaker vowed never to attend Cabinet meetings until issues of abductions were addressed by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Muturi demanded that the issues be made an agenda for Cabinet meetings for him to attend.
The former Public Service CS wondered why Ruto was unwilling to discuss abduction matters at the Cabinet level.
Muturi fell out with the Kenya Kwanza administration following the dramatic abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi.
