Did Mary Wamau ditch Rigathi Gachagua's camp?

On Thursday, April 3, Wamaua ditched Gachagua’s camp for President William Ruto's side.

In an unexpected turn of events, the lawmaker, a staunch ally of Gachagua, publicly announced the political shift during Ruto’s visit to her constituency.

While decamping, the lawmaker disclosed that she had been in talks with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki since November 2024.

"Professor Kithure Kindiki is my good friend. I know (Mr President) you have been watching me, and I have been in talks with Kindiki since November," Wamaua said as the crowd cheered.

The outspoken lawmaker also revealed her secret talks with the president, whom she described as her friend despite a few missteps.

Wamaua called on her voters to back Ruto's development agenda until he finished his five-year term.

"Let me tell you, Mr. President, you are my good friend, and I want to say that besides some few mistakes, slipping is not falling. His excellency is in his last term; let us give him a chance to work for five years, then we will look at his scorecard…and not this guy, you know him, even if you tell him to do 100 press ups he will do them," she added.

Wamaua went ahead to ask the president to make her his point person in Murang's county, which suggests her resolve to work closely with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kiambu Senator gives reason why Mutahi Kahiga attended Ruto’s rally: “Deliberate exposure"

The Maragua MP is among the few lawmakers from Mt Kenya region who strongly opposed the impeachment motion against Gachagua.

What Muhati Kahiga said about attending Ruto's event

In other news, Nyeir governor Mutahi Kahiga issued a statement downplaying his presence at Ruto’s event.

Kahiga, a close ally of the former deputy president, sparked questions after warmly welcoming Ruto to Nyeri county during his ongoing development tour of the region.

The Nyeri governor’s remarks at Ruto’s event caused speculations, with some suggesting he was planning to ditch the former deputy president.

However, in a social media post, he urged Kenyans not to overanalyse photos showing him interacting happily with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki—all key allies of the president.

According to Kahiga, he only attended the Nyeri rally because he was expected to welcome the head-of-state in his county.
