Leading outfits such as President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Democratic Movement are actively realigning their leadership as momentum builds ahead of what promises to be a highly competitive political season.
ODM is already conducting countrywide grassroots elections, allowing members to elect their preferred constituency leaders who will represent them at the upcoming National Delegates Convention.

Meanwhile, UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire announced that the party would conduct its grassroots elections in 22 counties between Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12.
While ODM and UDA forge ahead with mobilisation and internal restructuring, the Wiper Party appears to be facing growing internal concerns that demand urgent attention from its leader, Kalonzo.
What directive did Wiper youth give Kalonzo Musyoka?
Addressing the press on Friday, April 11, Wiper Youth Wing Secretary General Felix Mambo—who referred to Kalonzo as his political father and mentor—urged him to initiate immediate changes at the party’s top leadership level.
Mambo expressed concern that the party was not doing enough to outpace its competitors in the race to 2027, especially given that Kalonzo has already declared his presidential ambitions.
"It's not only a concern among the youth. Many party members and leaders have reservations about the leadership of our secretary general, Shakila Abdullah," Mambo stated.

He explained that the secretary general’s role serves as the central nervous system of any political outfit, warning that dysfunction in that office could significantly undermine the party’s competitiveness.
According to Mambo, parties like ODM and UDA benefit from vocal and visible secretaries-general who are actively championing their party agendas and boosting public engagement, something he believes Wiper currently lacks.
"Few people know our party's secretary general. While other SGs are visible and actively promoting their party’s image, our office holder lacks the charisma and visibility needed to drive us forward," he added.

Mambo called on Kalonzo to consider reassigning the current SG and appointing someone with energy, charisma, and a bold vision for the party’s future.
"We’re ready for the presidency, but that won’t be possible if we keep officials in office who lack public influence, vision, and charisma. Our SG is only known in Karen and its surroundings, and by a few MCAs.
"Very few Wiper MPs have interacted with her, and even some governors have expressed doubts about her ability to execute the role effectively. We plead with our party leader to assign her lighter duties and bring in new, focused energy to elevate us," Mambo said.
Representing Wiper’s Gen Z bloc, Mambo urged Kalonzo to initiate the leadership changes within 15 days, saying it is essential for the party’s revival and competitive edge ahead of 2027.
Will Kalonzo work with Rigathi Gachagua in 2027?
In February, Kalonzo, Rigathi Gachagua, and Eugene Wamalwa held a meeting in Nairobi, sparking widespread speculation about the formation of a possible opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.
Gachagua has been making strategic political moves, including attending DAP-K headquarters launch and publicly criticising President Ruto, suggesting that he is recalibrating his political direction.
Analysts interpreted the meeting as a potential first step toward building a formidable alliance to challenge Ruto’s re-election bid.
