In the interview, Senator Sifuna stated that he could forgive Salasya for not reading the contents of the memorandum of understanding signed between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, but not learned lawyers.

Speaking during the interview on Citizen TV, he took issue with Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, a professor of law, for what he termed a deliberate misrepresentation of the agreement.

“I can pardon Salasya for refusing to read this document and assuming I signed it, but I cannot forgive Professor Ojienda, because he is a lawyer,” Sifuna said during the show, adding that critics of the agreement were avoiding its actual content, despite it being publicly available.

Sifuna also argued that leaders such as Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and his Mining counterpart, Hassan Joho, had joined Ruto’s government before the document was even signed on February 7, 2025.

The ODM secretary general suggested the so-called “broad-based government” was not a product of the bipartisan talks.

“The people who are supporters of this animal, called Broad-based, are running away from the contents of the document. That is why the president gets annoyed with me when I remind him what the document says," he emphasised.

In a swift rebuttal, Salasya accused Sifuna of arrogance and political elitism. He defended his own credentials and independence.

“You have a law degree and I have a degree in banking and finance. You are a senator and I am an MP," he said.

The MP also questioned Sifuna’s political survival without Raila’s backing and challenged him to take his arguments to court instead of politicising them.

“The only difference between you and me is that I am a self-made leader while you were given by Raila Odinga and you can't survive in politics without him.
"So, respect me as your presidential candidate. Too much English shouldn't make you arrogant—take it to court, not into politics," Salasya added.
