Njiraini criticised Gachagua’s recent political moves, accusing the former deputy president of exposing a more unsettling side of his leadership since gaining widespread public support.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, Njiraini expressed concern that the former deputy president, who had originally presented himself as a champion of the people, was now showing signs of divisive behaviour.

“When Gachagua began his campaigns against the government, he was very tactful in what he said. And we agreed with him,” Njiraini recalled. “But just a few months down the line, with strong support from social media and the people, we are starting to see his true colours.”

Njiraini’s sharpest criticism was aimed at Gachagua’s comments urging a boycott of Central Kenya musicians, who had paid a courtesy call to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Gachagua had branded Kikuyu creatives as traitors and demanded public apologies.

Is Gachagua revealing his true colours?

The pilot decried the statement as reckless and unnecessary.

“He just said that we should boycott the Central musicians who went to see the sitting Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. This is dangerous,” Njiraini warned.

Highlighting the traditional role of musicians in Kenya’s political landscape, Njiraini emphasised that artists often perform for leaders across the political divide.

He argued that penalising them for engaging with the government was unfair and undemocratic.

“Musicians perform at rallies of both the government and the opposition. To say that we cancel any artist for disagreeing with you is outright bullying,” he stated.

The commentator went further and suggested that Gachagua’s recent outbursts are not mere slips but rather signs of deeper political traits.

He warned that such tendencies could define Gachagua’s leadership style if he were to assume power in the 2027 General Election.

“The deputy president, who once said he stands for the rights of the people, should not curtail the freedom of expression for these musicians. That should change,” Njiraini urged. “But it only shows that when we get to power, he will not be any different.”
