Why MPs are unable to visit George Koimburi
Delivering a communication on Tuesday afternoon, Wetang’ula confirmed that Koimburi, who was reported missing on Sunday, May 24, was later found alive in a coffee plantation under unclear circumstances and is currently hospitalised in Nairobi.

“I have this morning instructed the chair of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security to liaise with the Inspector General of Police and relevant security agencies to provide preliminary findings to the House,” Wetang'ula said.
Wetang'ula disclosed that the hospital treating the MP had reportedly denied access to all visitors, including detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), following instructions from the legislator’s family, a development that has further deepened the mystery surrounding the case.
“The facility is reportedly not allowing visitors, even officers from the DCI who were keen to establish what may have transpired,” the speaker said.
The Speaker further directed members of the Security Committee to visit the Juja lawmaker in the hospital and provide the House with an update on his condition.
But even as MPs sought answers, Wetang’ula cautioned against viewing the Juja legislator's case as an isolated incident.

He linked it to a worrying pattern of insecurity targeting elected leaders, referencing the recent fatal shooting of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were.
The Speaker also issued a stern advisory to lawmakers and the public at large to take their security seriously.
“These cases call for a thorough, coordinated investigation. We must demand answers, not just as leaders but on behalf of all Kenyans. Be vigilant. Be conscious of your surroundings and the company you keep, to ensure your safety is not compromised,” he warned.
Did George Koimburi stage his abduction?
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja suggested that Koimburi's alleged abduction could be a political drama.
According to the police boss, detectives probing the case have not found any evidence to support the narrative that security agencies abducted Kiomburi.
The caretaker of the coffee farm where the MP was allegedly dumped told police that he never witnessed the supposed abductors dropping the MP there.
The caretaker also told detectives that all had been calm at the farm and that there were no traces of movements even before and after the MP was reported to have been found.
