One of the most striking speeches came from Nyandarua senator John Methu, who issued a bold call for unity among opposition leaders and made incendiary remarks about the president’s future.

What did Senator Methu say about Ruto?

Methu asked the opposition to stay united in the run-up to the 2027 polls, and ensure Ruto is defeated.

“I want to ask our leaders, Kalonzo and Gachagua, to continue uniting and working together,” Methu began. “What we are asking you is this, Ruto said he wants two terms, and that’s okay. The first term, he is serving as president. But for the second term, I want you to unite, and when we send him home, you take him to jail so he can finish his second term there.”

The legislator went further, accusing Ruto of overseeing the deaths of young Kenyans during his time in power.

He dismissed the president’s recent attempts at reconciliation, demanding more than just words.

“Ruto presided over the killings of youths like me. And now he wants to ask for an apology? If he wants us to believe that apology is genuine, he should resign. Then we can consider whether or not to forgive him,” Methu added, his remarks met with roars from the crowd.

Is removing Ruto the opposition’s only agenda?

In a previous story by TUKO.co.ke, Gachagua reignited political tensions after responding sharply to Ruto’s claims that the opposition lacks a clear agenda.

The impeached deputy president made it clear that unseating Ruto in the 2027 General Election was not just part of the opposition’s plan, it was the plan.

Speaking during a political gathering in Tseikuru hosted by Kalonzo, Gachagua underscored the need for opposition unity.

He said talks were already underway with other leaders to form a formidable coalition that could challenge the Kenya Kwanza regime at the ballot.

Gachagua dismissed Ruto’s criticism, asserting the opposition should not take orders from the same government it aims to replace.
