This crucial announcement was made during a political rally attended by bigwigs from the opposition, including former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, among others.
Why did Kalonzo change his party's name?
While speaking to the residents of Emali on Friday, June 9, Kalonzo disclosed that he has decided to change his party's name to the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF).

He stated that his move to rebrand the party was to give tribute to Gen Z, who, according to him, have emerged as a powerful force that can shape the country's political landscape.
"Wiper! Wiper! In honour of the Gen Z, we are now calling it the WPF. How many people are accepting the new name? How many are ready to join the party?" he asked.
The politician further urged Kenyans to ensure that they have acquired their national identification cards, which would enable them to register as voters.
In response to Kalonzo's request, the charged crowd expressed frustration, citing challenges in obtaining IDs.
"They are refusing to give you? We are going to deal with them. We are writing a letter of opposition and ask for the past 24 months how many youth have received their IDs," Kalonzo said.
He also said the opposition will call for a breakdown of how many youths have received IDs, categorised by their communities.
Additionally, he further praised the President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza government for coming up with a move to ensure that secondary school students receive their National IDs.
"I hope they follow that. They should ensure that a Form 4 student gets an ID. This will enable them to register as voters," he added.
Kalonzo also declared that the opposition will not tolerate vote rigging in the highly anticipated 2027 elections.
He reiterated their commitment to ensuring that Ruto is not re-elected, making him a one-term head of state.
What did Gachagua say at Emali?
Gachagua echoed Kalonzo's calls to dethrone Ruto in the next election, arguing he had failed to deliver on the promises he made to Kenyans.
The DCP party leader accused the president of abandoning hustlers and mama mbogas who voted for him overwhelmingly in 2022.
The former Mathira lawmaker claimed the head of state had reneged on the promise of 'putting money' in the pockets of the middle class, and instead went overboard to raid the payslips of employed Kenyans.

Gachagua argued that Ruto's policies had failed, adding that no amount of time given to him would salvage the situation.
He also took issue with Farouk Kibet's criticism of Kalonzo, saying he was not in the same league as the former vice president.
Kibet, the president's aide, took a swipe at Kalonzo for teaming up with Gachagua, saying the Wiper boss had lost direction and was on the verge of drowning in politics.
He implored him to join the government, promising that there were enough positions to accommodate everyone.
Gachagua termed Kibet's remarks disrespectful and demeaning. He accused the president of sending his aide to attack the former vice president instead of doing it himself.
Did Kalonzo host Gachagua at his rural home?
This comes just days after Kalonzo hosted a delegation of prominent opposition leaders at his Tseikuru home, as discussions for the 2027 General Election coalition began to take shape.
