Video Emerges of Samson Cherargei Admitting CS Murkomen Was His Lecturer: "Taught Me Law"
- Nandi senator Samson Cherargei once acknowledged Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen as his law lecturer at the university
- Cherargei has lately been dismissing that fact, saying he never knew about Murkomen during his days as a student at the Moi University law school
- Murkomen recently revealed that the Nandi senator was a below-average student at the university
The back and forth between Nandi senator Samson Cherargei and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen seems to be far from a ceasefire, as they both strongly hold onto their stances against each other.

The genesis of their bad blood can't be clearly traced, but their current spectacle points to a friendship that irredeemably turned sour along the way.
They are both lawyers, but Murkomen claims Cherargei is his protégé in law.
How Senator Cherargei provoked Murkomen
During a question time in the Senate recently over the murder of blogger Albert Ojwang, the CS went ballistic on Cherargei, revealing that the senator performed dismally in law when he taught him at Moi University.

He was a below-par law student, according to the CS.
Murkomen's dressing down of Cherargei came after the latter accused the CS of being incompetent, for extrajudicial killings were happening under his watch in the Interior Ministry.
Cherargei asked Murkomen to resign, as he had presumably failed in his mandate.
That call seemed to have unsettled Murkomen, who spared a few minutes to destroy the senator in front of his colleagues in the chamber.
The CS said that by virtue of being a "failure" student of law, Cherargei didn't reserve any authority to question his competence to run the Interior Ministry.
How CS Murkomen reacted to Cherargei's criticism
He dismissed the senator's criticism as lacking substance and which hugely reeked of a personal vendetta.
Shortly after, in another forum outside the Senate, the Nandi senator clarified that Murkomen never taught him at Moi University.
He said he never knew Murkomen as a don specialising in law but as a librarian.

However, an old, undated video would later emerge showing Cherargei recognising Murkomen as his law lecturer.
It was in the third edition of the Senate where they both served, with Murkomen representing Elgeyo Marakwet.
Cherargei, while addressing the acting speaker at that time, revealed that Murkomen taught him international law.
"My lecturer, Mwalimu Murkomen, taught me international law," Cherargei said.
How Murkomen disparaged Cherargei
As earlier indicated, the Interior CS and the Nandi senator faced off during a Senate preliminary session in which the CS appeared to shed light on the killing of blogger Albert Ojwang while in police custody.
Cherargei, during his moment to question Murkomen, accused the CS of being incompetent, and watching over extrajudicial killings becoming rampant.
The senator pressured the CS to resign for having failed in his mandate.
With his right of reply, Murkomen exploded at the senator, whom he accused of lacking substance in his criticism.
The CS, who previously led the ministries of Roads and Sports, claimed that Cherargei’s criticism had nothing to do with his actual performance but was instead part of a recurring pattern of malice and smear campaigns.
Murkomen argued that Cherargei was not morally right to question his performance in government, revealing that the Nandi senator was a poor law student, as he taught him at Moi University, an assertion Cherargei strongly disapproved of, saying he never knew about Murkomen in his campus days.
