During a now-signature Kenya Kwanza meeting with more than 100 MCAs from Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties, Kindiki said the time has come for Kalonzo to return to his roots of moderation and national cohesion.

Is opposition divisive?

The DP faulted the opposition’s recent political posture and rhetoric during their rallies, calling it divisive and tribal.

Kindiki claimed that Kalonzo had found himself in uncharted waters, explaining that the former vice president has never been a polarising figure in Kenya's politics.

"It is disappointing to see my brother Kalonzo being dragged into a very unfamiliar and uncharacteristic space. Kalonzo is not known for ethnic politics or polarising things," Kindiki said.

Kindiki's remarks seemed deliberate and aimed at reopening a political channel with the Wiper party leader.

He called on Ukambani leaders to resist petty political distractions and focus on meaningful engagement that benefits ordinary citizens.

"Don’t be distracted by petty people who want to discuss useless things like who is tall or short. Engage in serious matters that will help improve the lives of your people, Ukambani included," he told the MCAs, in a direct jab at unnamed opposition figures.

The DP showcased a range of government-backed development projects targeting the region’s agriculture sector.

He pledged enhanced support for farmers through the national fertiliser subsidy programme and value chain improvements for crops like coffee, tea, maize, and sugarcane.

Why did Kindiki threaten Kalonzo?

In a related report, Kindiki pushed back at Kalonzo for tying him to the deaths of Gen Z protesters.

Kalonzo had demanded that Kindiki apologise for the killings during the 2024 Finance Bill protests and rejected partnership overtures.

Kindiki responded respectfully but warned against unsubstantiated claims.
