Ahmednasir Abdullahi Predicts Gachagua-Led Opposition Will Negotiate with Ruto in 2027

  • The endgame of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and his allies in the opposition may not be to capture power in 2027
  • Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi asserts that the faction has learnt they could not have chances and hence staging displays to increase their bargaining power
  • According to Ahmednasir, the leaders might want to negotiate with President William Ruto after he succeeds in his reelection bid

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi projects that former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and his allies from the opposition are not keen on winning power; instead, they intend to be disruptors to negotiate with the regime in power.

According to him, the opposition figures are engaging in a deliberate spectacle to enhance their political capital with which they can bargain post-2027.

Ahmednasir holds that the team lacks strategy and hence employs politically unorthodox means and capitalises on the young people's unrest to stay relevant.

"As of today, the Kenyan opposition led by Hon. Rigathi Gachagua and ably assisted by Hon Martha Karua, Dr. Fred Matiang'i, Cj Maraga, Hon Musyoka et al. has no pathway to victory in 2027. Destabilising Kenya and creating chaos is their best strategy to remain relevant and hold on to their respective tribal constituencies for post election negotiations. FACT!" he tweeted.

The same thought is held by former aide of Gachagua, Ngunjiri Wambugu.

Does Gachagua want to become president?

In his analysis, Ngunjiri, a former MP of Nyeri Town, opines that Gachagua is not keen on unseating President William Ruto and succeed him, but rather aims at becoming a powerful oligarch with massive influence outside of power.

He says the former deputy president targets to be a disruptor of Raila Odinga's kind; to wield insurmountable influence with which he can negotiate with the regimes in power.

Gachagua has formed the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), with which he intends to manoeuvre politically the ODM leader way.

Ngunjiri said;

"Gachagua wants power without accountability. He has an obsession with Raila. Gachagua wants to become Raila. I am more convinced that Gachagua is more interested in becoming Raila than removing Ruto from office. Raila has been out of office for 20 years, but he has been in every government."

Why Gachagua praises Raila Odinga

The former deputy president has in the recent been viewing Raila from a positive perspective, praising him for his political shrewdness.

Previously, Gachagua would harshly criticised the ODM leader, accusing him of leveraging his influence to undermine successive governments and acting primarily out of self-interest rather than national goodwill.

However, following Gachagua’s impeachment in late 2024, his stance toward the ODM boss appears to have shifted.

In a recent interview aired on Kikuyu-language stations, Gachagua acknowledged Raila’s political acumen and praised the strength of the ODM party, stating it remains a formidable force in Kenyan politics.

He even hinted at looking for Raila to borrow lessons on managing a party into a powerful outfit.

Gachagua even offered to partner with Raila he the latter so wishes, and help him become president after five failed attempts.
