The former DP doubled down on his claims, accusing Ruto of orchestrating state violence against Mt Kenya communities and mocking efforts to seek justice.

In a charged social media post on Wednesday, July 9, Gachagua dismissed Ruto’s calls for him to report perpetrators of recent unrest, stressing the president himself should be held accountable.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader said it was absurd to expect victims to report crimes to the same police who, according to him, facilitated and supervised the attacks.

"Give us a break! How do we report state-sponsored millitia and those who organized them to the police who supervised them as they burned and looted property? You are asking us to name those who organised?
I named you as the person responsible for unleashing violence against the community that made you President. How do I report you to the same police you directed to supervise and protect the militia as they brutalised Kenyans," Gachagua fired before departing for a two-month tour of the United States.

How will Ruto face the law for his alleged actions?

Gachagua's statement was a direct response to Ruto’s remarks earlier in the day, where he challenged those with information on attacks targeting Mt Kenya businesses to formally name the culprits and record statements with the authorities.

The head of state had described claims of state-sponsored violence as reckless and baseless political games.

But Gachagua doubled down, stating bluntly that he had already named Ruto as the person responsible for unleashing violence against Mt Kenya.

He accused the head of state of deliberately turning a blind eye to the suffering in Mt Kenya, noting that Ruto had neither offered condolences nor condemned the attacks.

The former DP suggested that Ruto would have to face the consequences of his actions at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Netherlands.

"You could not even send condolences to the dead. You lack feelings and humanity. We shall report you NOT to the Kenyan police but the International Criminal Court an address you are familiar with," he wrote.

How did Ichung'wah respond to Gachagua's claims?

In a related report, Kikuyu MP and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah refuted Gachagua’s accusations that he and Ruto orchestrated the torching of police stations.

Ichung’wah dismissed the claims as “malicious,” saying Gachagua was diverting blame from his political decline by pinning responsibility on them.

He insisted no attack on police installations occurred, calling the allegations absurd and dangerous.

Ichung’wah also pointed to arrests of people close to Gachagua, alleging they incited the violence and caused damage to public property.
