Karua asserted that she was the one who called Raila at the beginning of July, asking him to reconsider his decision to work with President William Ruto under the broad-based government.

Did Karua ask Raila to ditch Ruto?

Speaking to NTV on Wednesday, July 23, Karua sent an appeal to Raila asking him to withdraw his support from the Kenya Kwanza government.

Karua further stated she asked Raila about how he felt when he saw Kenyans being shot dead and injured during protests.

"I heard Raila saying that he had talked to me, Kalonzo, and I don't know with whom else. I want to say that I am the one who called him to pass a personal message to him from a mutual contact. I then followed up on that call, not now about the contact, but looking at what was happening," Karua said.
"After Saba Saba, either on the 8th or on the 9th, I called him again, this time to ask him a question. How does his conscience sit with the continuous bloodletting by the KK regime?" Karua added.

Will Karua hold discussions with Raila?

The vocal politician and lawyer further clarified that she wasn't looking for a discussion with the Orange Democratic Movement leader, but rather to try to reason with him.

She added that Raila responded by saying that he was misunderstood by Kenyans about the conclave.

Raila had proposed the establishment of the conclave to lead civic engagement and the reforms in a bid to address the issues that led to the anti-government protests.

She said that the former prime minister suggested that they should have a face-to-face meeting, which she declined.

"I told him I am off to the US. I am not in favour of a meeting at all over those matters because William Ruto will use it as a pacifier to pacify the people when the people get nothing. To consolidate and hit the people harder," she said.
