In an interview with digital creator Andrew Kibe, Morara opened up about the unexpected moment that nearly altered the course of his political journey. The conversation, according to Morara, happened a while before he publicly declared his departure from politics.

Morara had gained widespread attention through his cross-country tour scrutinising incomplete development projects launched under the Ruto administration.

He chronicled these visits on social media using the hashtag #VampireDiaries, a satirical nod to what he described as "sucked-dry" public resources.

Did Ruto call Morara Kebaso?

Recounting the surprise call, Morara said he was initially caught off guard by the voice on the other end.

“Ruto’s voice is unmistakable. If he greets you, even on the phone, you just know it’s him. I recognised it immediately because I had listened to him many times on TV and radio,” he said.

The president, according to Kebaso, began with pleasantries, then shifted to more personal questions. He asked about Morara’s roots, his constituency, and even named individuals from Morara’s ward, details that left the young activist both stunned and cautious.

“I didn’t know what to expect. I had to explain where I came from. He mentioned several people from my ward and constituency, people I never thought a sitting president would know. It felt surreal,” Morara recalled.

Was Morara Kebaso offered chance to join Ruto's government?

The president allegedly told him he had a “bright future”, and extended an invitation to join the Kenya Kwanza political camp.

“He told me there were many opportunities in his team, especially for young people like me who are passionate and outspoken. He said he could help mentor youth like me to grow politically,” Kebaso revealed.

However, despite the honor of being recognised by the head of state, Morara turned down the offer.

While he didn’t disclose the exact date of the call, Morara hinted that it came at a time when aligning with Ruto was seen as political suicid*, something he wasn’t willing to risk, despite the promise of influence and mentorship.

“It was that time that crossing over to Ruto was like a death sentence. Even sympathising with Ruto meant you were done politically. The plitical climate was hostile,” he explained.

Why did Morara Kebaso quit politics?

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Morara officially quit politics, describing the decision as a personal liberation.

His departure came after a series of challenges, including internal party strife and high-profile resignations within his Inject Party. Though he briefly aligned with the opposition to keep his political vision alive, he ultimately withdrew from active politics just weeks later.

Kebaso later reflected on the toll political life had taken on him, citing public scrutiny, media pressure, and personal stress as key reasons for stepping away.

He embraced his new chapter with relief, celebrating the freedom to live without fear, judgment, or obligation to public expectations.

Is Morara refunding supporters' money?

Morara did not just announce his exit from active politics, but also offered to refund M-Pesa donations he received from his supporters during his activism.
