Speaking in Kakamega on Friday, July 25, Sifuna stated that he works for the people and there is no way he can be the secretary general of the party if he is not wanted.

Additionally, he stated that there are party members who do not understand how he became the ODM Party secretary general, saying that they can't tell him to step down.

He asserted that the only person with that kind of power is the ODM party leader, Raila Odinga.

When will Edwin Sifuna resign from ODM role?

Sifuna affirmed that he can only resign when Raila tells him that he was going against the principles of the party through his talks.

"There are people in this party who don't know where I came from or how exactly I rose to becoming the party's secretary general. I can't listen to them," Sifuna said.
"There are people who know how Sifuna found himself occupying this seat. Those people, including Raila Amollo Odinga, when they tell me that I am going against the party's required conduct, I will resign from the seat without causing any chaos," Sifuna argued.

Sifuna further asked the people of Kakamega if they wanted him to step down, but they boldly declined, urging him to continue with his role.

Did Sifuna slam Raila-Ruto partnership?

The Nairobi senator attracted a lot of backlash from a section of ODM members who called him out for constantly speaking against the broad-based government.

Speaking on Tuesday, July 22, Sifuna argued that ODM had lost its popularity in the country due to Raila's partnership with President William Ruto.

Additionally, he stated that the continued camaraderie between the two political bigwigs would affect ODM's preparation time for the next election.

He asserted that ODM also intends to present a presidential candidate that will face off against Ruto in the 2027 polls.

Why won't Edwin Sifuna give up his post?

This comes a day after Sifuna stated that he is unlikely to give up his position in the ODM party despite his ideological differences with his boss, Raila.

Sifuna remained optimistic that he would finally convince Raila to view Ruto analytically and ultimately get to share their thoughts about the Kenya Kwanza government.

He argued that deep down, he still knew the former prime minister knows what is right for the people and will fight for them.
