Nairobi: New Survey Shows Agnes Kagure, Babu Owino Would Easily Defeat Sakaja in Gubernatorial Race

Nairobipopularity - Mizani Africa has released its survey regarding the popularity of leaders eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.

The opinion poll results released on Monday, July 28, show that Governor Johnson Sakaja will not be reelected if elections were held today.
Will Sakaja be reelected in 2027?
According to the poll, Sakaja's popularity has significantly decreased compared to the time he won the election in 2022.
Mizani Africa stated that Nairobi's gubernatorial race remains competitive, with no candidate securing a commanding lead.

From the results, Businesswoman Agnes Kagure, who has a popularity rating of 18%, would emerge third ahead of Sakaja, who has a rating of 15.8%.
Embasaki East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has a rating of 21%, with MP James Gaguya enjoying a marginal advantage.
"The Nairobi County gubernatorial race remains competitive,with no candidate securing a commanding lead. While James Gakuya currently holds a marginal advantage, Babu Owino and Agnes Kagure demonstrate strong constituency-based appeal. Johnson Sakaja, though facing reduced support," Mizani Africa said.
The survey results show that Babu enjoys the majority of the support in Eastlands, Mathare, Ruaraka and Kibra constituencies.
How Agnes Kagure can win 2027 poll
Meanwhile, Kagure, who runs the Agnes Kagure Foundation, is more popular in Starehe and Westlands, appealing to middle-class voters.
For Kagure to win the seat, most Nairobi residents want her to use issue-based campaigns and to build a brand in urban regions.
Kagure has been running various empowerment programmes targeting youth and women groups across the 17 constituencies.
The survey, which was conducted between June 16 to July 8, shows that the ODM party is still popular at 21.1% followed by DCP at 20.9%, and UDA at 10.2%.
The survey, which involved 1,700 respondents above the age of 18, used stratified sampling by ward via telephone interviews to collect data.
According to Mizani Africa, the survey has an error margin of +-3 with a 95% confidence level.

Did Luhya leaders endorse Agnes Kagure?
Recently, Kagure received a major boost after Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi's supporters endorsed her bid.
On Wednesday, July 9, a section of the Luhya community grassroots leaders endorsed the renowned businesswoman for the 2027 Nairobi governorship.
Speaking at Jeevanjee Gardens, the leaders lauded Kagure's credentials, arguing that she is the best leader to replace Sakaja.
The leaders accused Sakaja of failing to deliver on most of his 2022 campaign promises, such as keeping the city clean.
The move by Luhya commuunity leaders came after Wanyonyi declared his bid for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat.
